SCAMPI 1.2 changes (summary points)

1.
SCAMPI appraisals with their on-site period beginning after August 31, 2007 will be valid and accepted only if they are conducted with a v1.2 CMMI model and the v1.2 SCAMPI method.
2.
During the sunset period, appraisals using a mix of the v1.1 and 1.2 CMMI models and SCAMPI appraisal method will be accepted as valid. Any appraisal using either the v1.1 model or the v1.1 method is considered a v1.1 appraisal.
3.

Appraisal team members are now required to sign the final findings.

4.
The "Conduct Appraisal" Phase must now be complete within 90 days.
5.
Documents used as objective evidence must have been created or revised prior to the start of the Conduct Appraisal phase. [SCAMPI MDD, 2.2.1, p II-71]
6.
If any practice characterizations are done before or during the readiness review, then the Conduct Appraisal phase has begun and must be completed within the 90-day constraint.
7.

The final summary of a SCAMPI appraisal, the Appraisal Disclosure Statement (ADS), has been expanded significantly to provide more insight into an appraisal. Any SCAMPI appraisal, whether v1.1 or v1.2, starting on or after November 1, 2006, is required to use the v1.2 ADS. The new ADS requires the following information:

  • Organizational sampling criteria and decisions (e.g., projects included, projects excluded, percentage of organization represented).
  • Basis for maturity/capability level 4 and 5 appraisal results:
    • subprocesses statistically managed.
    • mapping of these subprocesses to quality and process performance objectives.
  • Signatures of both the lead appraiser and sponsor:
    • The lead appraiser affirms that the appraisal scope is representative of the organizational unit.
    • The sponsor affirms the accuracy of the ADS and authorizes the SEI to conduct any audits deemed necessary.
8.
V1.2 appraisal results are valid a maximum of 3 years from the date of the ADS.
9.
V1.1 appraisals will expire in August 2007 or 3 years after the date the appraisal was conducted, whichever is later.
10.

Appraisers who want to conduct v1.2 SCAMPI level 4 or 5 appraisals must be certified. Certification requirements address the following:

  • education, training, and experience in level 4 and 5 concepts.
  • completion of an oral exam.
11.
Delta appraisals are not permitted. A delta appraisal is defined as a second appraisal performed on a subset of an original appraisal model scope after correcting weaknesses reported in the previous appraisal, and then combining the results of the second appraisal with the results of the parts of the first appraisal that were not investigated in the second appraisal to get new results. [SCAMPI MDD, 1.1.3, p II-11]
